Increase Computer Speed

In this post, you are going to learn some real simple but effective ways on how to improve PC performance. Its inevitable that you computer is going to slow down over time, but there are many things you can do to actually prevent this from happening over time.

Tip # 1 – Computer Memory: One of the biggest mistakes a person can do is to buy a machine that doesn’t have sufficient memory. Take note of what you are going to be using your computer for. Will you be gaming, checking email and creating word documents or will you be editing and creating graphics. All of these jobs do require different amounts of memory. If your PC is really slow or your computer freezes when you have several programs open, it is probably due to the lack of RAM in your computer. Adding RAM to increase computer speed is much more cost effective than buying a whole new computer.

Tip # 2 – Have a clean desktop: Maybe your not good at keeping your house or office clean, but not having a clean desktop is one of the biggest mistakes I think we all tend to make. Having a 100 icons on your desktop will definitely slow your computer startup time and also cause your computer to use more memory when it eventually does load. Let’s not forget the fact that actually trying to locate a shortcut will take you longer, thus you will be wasting valuable time. Utilize your ‘My Documents’ folder and clear off that desktop. You will see an increase in PC performance.

Tip # 3 – It’s time to Defrag: One of the best long-term strategies at keeping your computer working at peak performance is by running windows defrag on your hard drive. I recently wrote a post that was dedicated to how and why windows defrag can boost your computer speed. I would recommend running a defrag about once every month unless you make a big change to your computer. If you went in and did a bunch of house cleaning on your computer by deleting a whole bunch of files and programs, then I would recommend running a windows defrag after doing that. This would help to get your files organized on the actual hard drive resulting in better performance for you!
